Team Profiency Scan
Software delivery involves multiple areas of decision-making and expertise: product, architecture, feature delivery, and day-to-day development of working software. These areas are entangled and continuously influence each other, which makes it hard to decide what improvements to invest in. Just focusing on agile processes or writing good code is not enough – instead a systems approach is needed to become excellent at software delivery.
Proficient teams enable software delivery excellence
- Do you have this gut feeling that your teams, although pretty mature, can grow further?
- Do you have teams that are struggling to find ways to improve?
- Have you given teams complete freedom to embrace agile, but it is not working out as expected?
- Do you have teams that you think can do better, while they believe everything is working fine?
- Do you notice that teams are doing fewer and fewer retrospectives, and when asked, they struggle to find subjects to talk about?
A team proficiency scan provides insights into what teams really need to grow.
What we offer
We can work with you and your teams. We offer a diagnostic tool to gain profound insights in team growth and potential and find direction for focused improvement. It will help your teams to find specific areas for growth and what they can do themselves to become more fluent at software delivery. We will provide systemic insights in your development organization that will help you to create a context in which your teams can thrive.
Benefits
The outcomes of a team proficiency scan will support you in:
- directing your investments to what makes your teams excellent at software delivery;
- surfacing team strengths;
- empowering teams to improve their skills where they can;
- gaining insights in systemic patterns that keep your organization from becoming more proficient.
Approach
A team proficiency scan for an organization with multiple delivery teams will usually consist of these steps:
- discuss objectives and the approach with management and decide which teams to include;
- management introduces the team proficiency scan to the teams;
- for each team, we will:
- do a short kick-off;
- run the scan, which consists of a survey and a 2-3 hour in-depth workshop;
- discuss results: strengths we observed, improvement opportunities, and investment requests;
- do a short follow-up workshop to decide on concrete actions;
- discuss the aggregated results and observed systemic patterns with management;
- let teams present their feedback and concrete actions to management;
- discuss next steps with management.
A team proficiency scan is most valuable for situations with three or more teams because this will make systemic patterns more visible. With one or two teams, we can do a shorter scan that will still produce valuable insights.
